Ogun East APC Stakeholders Unite, Endorse Abiodun for 2027 Senate Bid
A broad coalition of political stakeholders across Ogun East Senatorial District has unanimously endorsed Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Senate election. This move signals a strong early consolidation of support within the party, positioning Abiodun as a frontrunner for the legislative seat.

The endorsement was announced at a high-level senatorial district meeting, drawing backing from a wide spectrum of party leaders and officeholders. These include 103 councillors, members of the House of Assembly, local government chairmen, commissioners, political appointees, women leaders, and former public officeholders.
Speaking on behalf of legislative leaders in Ogun East, the Leader of the House from Odogbolu Local Government, Hon. Bello Olatunde Sikiru, affirmed the collective decision of lawmakers across the district to support Governor Abiodun’s transition to the Senate. He cited the governor's developmental strides and leadership track record as key reasons for the endorsement.

Grassroots and Executive Support
At the grassroots level, local government leadership reinforced the momentum. Hon. Funsho Badejo, Chairman of Ijebu North East, described the governor as "a divine asset" to the state and endorsed his Senate ambition on behalf of council chairmen across the district.
The Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Odulate, echoed this support, stressing the need for continuity of development through Abiodun’s representation in Abuja.
The endorsement extended to the executive arm, with Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, speaking on behalf of commissioners and special advisers from Ogun East, declaring their collective support.
Women leaders across all nine local governments in the district also threw their weight behind the governor. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Funmilayo Efuwape, confirmed the backing of female political appointees.
Broad Consensus and Formal Adoption
Further strengthening the consensus, the Ogun East Governor’s Advisory Council, former local government chairmen, and members of the House of Representatives from the district all endorsed Abiodun’s candidacy.
Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, praised the governor’s achievements and stated that the three federal lawmakers from Ogun East were aligned in their support.
In a defining moment at the meeting, former Senator Lekan Mustapha formally announced that Prince Dapo Abiodun had been adopted as the consensus candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District. He further disclosed that the senatorial nomination form had already been secured on behalf of the governor, underscoring the depth of commitment among stakeholders.

Responding on behalf of the governor, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, expressed appreciation for the overwhelming show of support. He described it as a vote of confidence in Abiodun’s leadership and governance record.
Talabi assured stakeholders that the governor remains committed to delivering impactful governance and would continue to serve the people with dedication.
