The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Pastor Victor Akande, has declared that the people of the state have completely turned their backs on the All Progressives Congress (APC). He attributed this rejection to the alleged failures and hardships inflicted during the party's previous tenure.
APC's Legacy of Pain and Suffering
Speaking during a media briefing in Osogbo on Thursday, Akande painted a grim picture of the APC's past rule. He asserted that the opposition party caused immense suffering for residents, a memory that continues to haunt its prospects.
"People rejected them completely because of the suffering and untold hardship that the APC inflicted on the people of Osun State," Akande stated emphatically. He pointed to specific grievances, including the controversial half-salary scheme for workers and the plight of pensioners.
He recounted a tragic history where pensioners reportedly lost their lives because they could not access their entitlements to buy medication. "The government of that time had squandered that money. There were abandoned projects," he added, solidifying his critique of the APC's administrative record.
Adeleke's Transformative Governance
In stark contrast, Akande heaped praise on the current administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke. He claimed that Adeleke, now a member of the Accord Party, has rewritten the state's "ugly history" in just three years.
He cited widespread infrastructural development as proof of the governor's commitment. "A living witness is the flyover bridge at Oke-Fia; projects are in every nook and cranny of this state," Akande noted, arguing that this tangible progress has earned the governor massive public support and acceptance.
Based on this performance, Akande declared that Governor Adeleke deserves a second term and expressed confidence that the people are ready to re-elect him under the Accord Party platform. He dismissed the APC's candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as a non-threat to the incumbent.
Accord's Strategy for 2026 Victory
Outlining his party's strategy for the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial election, Akande revealed that Accord has established structures across all local governments and units in the state. A key focus is grassroots mobilization and voter education.
The party has set up a community enlightenment committee to reach rural areas with limited access to social media or electricity. This committee will spread news of the state's developments and educate voters, especially the elderly, on how to vote for Accord.
Akande, who also chairs the Osun State Inter-Party Advisory Council, highlighted the broad-based support for the administration. He recalled that 14 other political parties attended Accord's primary on December 10, 2025, in solidarity.
He concluded with a bold prediction: "I know, by the grace of God, that in August 2026, they will hear it clearly that APC has become a persona non grata in Osun State." He believes Governor Adeleke's work will ultimately speak for him at the polls.
