Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has called on voters to remain patient and composed despite technical issues reported during the ongoing governorship election in parts of the state. The governor spoke shortly after casting his vote, addressing concerns about glitches with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) used for voter verification.
Governor Expresses Satisfaction with Election Conduct
According to reports from TheCable, Oyebanji expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the poll, describing the atmosphere across the state as peaceful and encouraging. He noted that voter participation has been impressive, with residents showing strong enthusiasm in exercising their democratic rights.
"Everything is positive, and the election is going smoothly. The people are happy, and voter turnout is impressive," the governor said.
Technical Glitches and INEC Assurance
Oyebanji acknowledged reports of technical difficulties at some polling units but urged the electorate not to lose confidence in the process. He emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had assured him that the challenges encountered during accreditation would be resolved.
"We are satisfied. However, I need to appeal to our people to remain patient with INEC. All of these technical glitches will be addressed, as INEC has personally assured me," he stated.
Background on the Election
The Ekiti governorship election is being held on June 20, 2026, with voters across the state casting their ballots to choose the next governor. The election has been largely peaceful, though some polling units experienced delays due to BVAS malfunctions. INEC officials have been working to fix the issues to ensure a smooth accreditation process.
