Primate Ayodele Issues Critical Warning to President Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Elections
Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele, the influential leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Lagos, has delivered a stark warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding his political strategy for the upcoming 2027 presidential elections. In a statement released through his media aide Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric emphasized that Tinubu must take immediate and serious action to build genuine support in northern Nigeria if he hopes to secure a second term in office.
Northern Support Remains Elusive for Tinubu's Ambition
According to Primate Ayodele, the northern region of Nigeria has not yet embraced President Tinubu's second-term ambition due to what he describes as inadequate political management in the area. The spiritual leader cautioned that many individuals are currently deceiving the president about his actual standing in the North, creating a false sense of security that could prove disastrous for his electoral prospects.
"Concentrate more on the North. Don't let them deceive you," Ayodele advised President Tinubu directly. "They have not captured the North yet for you. The northerners will instigate a lot of sensitive things, and of course, they will come in one voice to support one person."
The cleric further warned that while Tinubu's candidacy might divide northern political blocs, this potential division would not automatically translate to electoral success without deliberate and strategic engagement with regional power structures.
Family and Movement Efforts Deemed Insufficient
In a particularly pointed assessment, Primate Ayodele declared that efforts by Seyi Tinubu, the president's son, would prove inadequate for securing northern support. He similarly dismissed the potential impact of the popular City Boy movement, suggesting that neither personal family connections nor youth-oriented political movements would resonate sufficiently in the northern political landscape.
"Seyi Tinubu cannot do so much for Tinubu in the north; he needs capable hands," Ayodele stated unequivocally. "City boy movement will not do so much in the north for Tinubu. They have started training those who will cause trouble in the north, so he needs to work with the Emirs, political leaders, and religious leaders in the north."
Call for Direct Engagement with Northern Leadership
The spiritual leader's prescription involves President Tinubu taking personal charge of northern outreach efforts, moving beyond intermediaries to establish direct relationships with traditional, political, and religious authorities across the region. Ayodele emphasized that this approach represents a fundamental shift from previous political strategies and warned that "it will not be business as usual" for the 2027 electoral cycle.
Primate Ayodele's warning comes amid growing political speculation about the 2027 elections, with various figures already positioning themselves for what promises to be a highly contested presidential race. His statements highlight the enduring importance of northern Nigeria in determining national political outcomes, a reality that has shaped Nigerian politics for decades.
Broader Political Context and Competing Prophecies
This intervention occurs within a broader context of political prophecies and predictions surrounding the 2027 elections. Previously, Reverend Solomon Eliyah of the Throne of Eliyah's Ministry in Abia State prophesied that Peter Obi, a prominent political figure associated with the African Democratic Congress, would secure approximately 70 percent of total votes in the presidential contest. Reverend Eliyah further predicted that election results would face significant legal challenges, potentially being "announced in the court" rather than through conventional electoral processes.
These competing narratives underscore the complex interplay between spiritual guidance, political strategy, and regional dynamics that continues to characterize Nigerian electoral politics. As the 2027 elections approach, President Tinubu and other political actors must navigate these multifaceted challenges while building coalitions capable of securing victory in Africa's most populous nation.
