Activist Declares Peter Obi Unfit for Presidency

Human rights activist Segun Awosanya, widely known as Segalink, has asserted that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is not fit to become Nigeria's president. Awosanya criticized Obi's political record as divisive and lacking the qualities needed for national leadership.

Speaking on the upcoming 2027 general election, Awosanya argued that Obi's political appeal is built on public anger rather than constructive leadership. He described Obi as a leader of the mob who exploits the frustrations of angry citizens to gain political attention.

Obi's Leadership Style Under Fire

According to Awosanya, Obi's politics are driven by an online mob and characterized by demonization and blackmail. He stated, "It is obvious to the blind and audible to the deaf that somebody who is playing to the gallery, who postures as one thing and is actually another, should be revealed for who they are."

Awosanya further claimed that Obi's past actions contradict his current political stance. He noted that during his tenure as Anambra State governor, Obi created divisions among Christians and Catholics, a move he now preaches against. Awosanya emphasized that evidence of these actions exists.

Critique of Social Media Narratives

The activist warned against mistaking viral social media narratives for facts. He stated, "The fact that the lie is viral doesn't make it the truth." This comment underscores his belief that Obi's popularity online does not translate to effective governance.

Awosanya clarified that his earlier commendation of Obi was not an endorsement but an observation of Obi's focus on issues affecting vulnerable Nigerians. However, he concluded that Obi's divisiveness makes him unsuitable for the presidency.

Obi's Call for Tinubu's Resignation

In related news, Peter Obi has called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's resignation, accusing his administration of overseeing "grand corruption." Obi cited an alleged N8.83 trillion in unbudgeted expenditure highlighted in an International Monetary Fund (IMF) consultation report.

Obi reiterated his stance that recent developments reinforce the need for Tinubu to step down.

Political Analysis: 2027 Election Outlook

Meanwhile, House Committee on Navy Chairman Yusuf Gagdi asserted that neither Atiku Abubakar nor Peter Obi has demonstrated the organization needed to defeat Tinubu in 2027. Gagdi argued that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has significantly more political activities nationwide compared to opposition parties.

The Plateau lawmaker cited his 31,000-vote margin of victory in 2023 as evidence of APC's grassroots dominance. This analysis suggests that Obi and Atiku face an uphill battle in the next election.
