Senator Shehu Buba Announces Bid for Bauchi Governorship in 2027
Senator Shehu Umar Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections. He made this announcement during a public event in Magama, Toro Local Government Area, on Saturday, emphasizing his commitment to enhancing the living conditions of the state's residents.
Declaration and Vision for Bauchi State
In his declaration speech, Senator Buba stated, "After deep reflection, wide consultations, and overwhelming calls from the people, I stand before you with humility and gratitude to Almighty Allah to formally declare my intention to contest for the office of Governor of Bauchi State in 2027." He described his ambition as the start of a new journey aimed at fostering a more prosperous, secure, and united Bauchi State, leveraging the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Buba outlined key priorities for his campaign, including:
- Inclusive growth and equitable development
- Transparent governance and peaceful coexistence
- Youth empowerment and technology-driven education
- Enhanced security and welfare for all citizens
APC Platform and Political Landscape
Senator Buba reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, highlighting it as the most viable platform to achieve his vision. He noted that despite being in opposition in Bauchi State, the party has grown stronger. He also expressed appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's national leadership, which he said continues to strengthen the APC across Nigeria.
Buba is the second aspirant within the APC to officially declare his candidacy to succeed the outgoing Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Earlier in April, Bala Wunti, a retired official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), also declared his intention to run for governor under the APC.
Competitive Race Among Aspirants
The race for the APC ticket is becoming increasingly competitive. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, resigned from his position to pursue his governorship aspiration within the APC. Additionally, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, is widely believed to be seeking the party's ticket. Both Pate and Tuggar have contested the governorship seat in the last three elections, adding to the intensity of the upcoming race.
With Buba's entry, the contest is expected to be tough among the aspirants, unless a consensus agreement is reached to support a single candidate. This development sets the stage for a dynamic political battle in Bauchi State as the 2027 elections approach.
