The Sultan of Sokoto and president-general of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, has officially launched the EasyZakat app, a digital platform designed to strengthen transparency and accountability in the collection and distribution of Zakat across Nigeria.
The app, developed by the Ummah Zakat Foundation (UZF), was unveiled at a ceremony in Abuja on August 8, 2026. Representing the Sultan, the Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Usman Chindo Yamusa III, presided over the event, which attracted Islamic scholars, government officials, development partners, and members of the diplomatic community.
EasyZakat: A Digital Leap for Islamic Alms
The EasyZakat app is a product of the Ummah Zakat Foundation, an organization established to integrate modern technology with Islamic principles in administering Zakat. The platform aims to provide donors with confidence that their contributions reach the intended beneficiaries, while also offering a structured channel for those in need to access support.
The launch event also marked the inauguration of the UZF's Board of Trustees, a move seen as formalizing the institution's governance structure and ensuring long-term accountability.

Speaking on behalf of the Sultan, the Emir of Keffi emphasized that Zakat is more than a simple act of charity. He described it as a sacred religious duty and a mechanism for social justice, wealth redistribution, and the protection of vulnerable people in society.
