SWAGA 2.0 Launches in Ondo to Drive Tinubu's Second-Term Campaign for 2027
The South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) has officially launched its second-term mobilisation drive for President Bola Tinubu, operating under the renewed banner SWAGA 2.0. The group kicked off its efforts in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa assuring full support and setting a target of one million votes for the 2027 election.
Governor Aiyedatiwa Commends SWAGA's Vision
At the event held at the International Conference Centre, The Dome, which drew hundreds of supporters, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised SWAGA for its foresight in backing Tinubu during the 2023 election when many political observers doubted his prospects. He highlighted that the group's original mission to ensure Tinubu's emergence as president had been accomplished, and SWAGA 2.0 is now focused on securing a second term.
"About four years ago, when SWAGA was formed, many people did not give our current president a chance. But SWAGA was visionary; they saw what others could not see. For us in Ondo State, we have set a target of a minimum of one million votes in the next election. That is our benchmark," Aiyedatiwa stated.
Senator Adeyeye Reflects on Past Challenges and Achievements
Senator Dayo Adeyeye, the National Chairman of SWAGA and Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), provided an assessment of the group's previous efforts. He disclosed that marketing Tinubu's candidacy to Nigerians ahead of the 2023 election was challenging, with many voters remaining sceptical despite his track record as governor of Lagos State. Adeyeye emphasised that those doubts have since been dispelled by Tinubu's performance in office.
Adeyeye hailed the Tinubu administration for decisive policy actions that have helped stabilise the economy and set Nigeria on a path to recovery. He also dismissed claims that the president is orchestrating a move toward a one-party state, insisting that Nigeria remains a multi-party democracy where strong leadership naturally attracts widespread support.
Call for Renewed Energy from SWAGA Members
Abegunde Ifedayo, the Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), appealed to SWAGA members to replicate the energy and dedication shown during the 2023 campaign as they prepare for the 2027 polls. The launch event underscored the group's commitment to mobilising grassroots support across the South West region and beyond.
The SWAGA 2.0 initiative aims to build on Tinubu's bold reforms and achievements, positioning him as a qualified leader for another four-year term. With key political figures and supporters rallying behind the cause, the campaign is set to intensify in the lead-up to the 2027 election.
