The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State concluded its House of Representatives primary elections on Saturday, with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, son of elder statesman Prof. Ango Abdullahi, among the winners across the state's federal constituencies.
Primary Election Results Announced
The results were announced at the APC State Secretariat in Kaduna by the Chairman of the House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, Yakubu Hosseini. He stated that the exercise was conducted in line with the party's constitution and electoral guidelines.
Zaria Federal Constituency
For Zaria Federal Constituency, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas emerged unopposed after polling 930 votes in an affirmation exercise. Hosseini declared: "Right Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, having satisfied the requirements of the APC Constitution and Guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner of the primary election and returned elected as the party's House of Representatives candidate for Zaria Federal Constituency."
Other Constituencies
In Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, Amos Gwamna Magaji emerged through consensus after securing 1,930 votes. For Kaduna North Federal Constituency, Samaila Abdul Suleiman won convincingly with 3,049 votes, defeating Abdulaziz Abubakar Kaka, who polled 65 votes, and Abubakar Mahmoud, who secured 96 votes. Hosseini announced: "Honourable Samaila Abdul Suleiman, having satisfied the requirements of the APC Constitution and Guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner of the primary election."
In Kaura Federal Constituency, Benjamin Gugong defeated Donatus Mathieu after polling 1,085 votes against Mathieu's 255 votes. Mukhtar Zakarin Chiawai also emerged as the APC consensus candidate for Kauru Federal Constituency with 1,750 votes. Similarly, Felix Joseph Bagudu secured victory in Kachia Federal Constituency with 1,580 votes, while Daniel Amos emerged winner for Jema'a/Sanga Federal Constituency. For Kagarko/Kachia Federal Constituency, Gabriel Salle was declared winner after satisfying the party's requirements.
Key Victory for Ango Abdullahi's Son
One of the major highlights of the primaries was the emergence of Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, son of former Ahmadu Bello University Vice Chancellor and northern elder statesman Prof. Ango Abdullahi, who polled 920 votes in his constituency's contest. Other victorious aspirants announced included Muhammad Jallo, who secured 1,171 votes, and Bashir Suleiman Juntu, who polled 1,787 votes in their respective constituencies.
Conclusion of Primaries
Kaduna State APC Chairman, Atiku Sanke, formally accepted the results and declared the primary exercise concluded. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present to monitor the collation and announcement of results from the various federal constituencies.
