2027: Tortiv-Ato Vows to End Benue Insecurity, Drive Development
Tortiv-Ato Pledges to Tackle Benue Insecurity by 2027

PDP Aspirant Vows to Restore Security in Benue

Engr. Peter Terwase Tortiv-Ato, a prominent governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, has made a firm commitment to provide the right leadership necessary to tackle the state's persistent and debilitating security challenges. He also promised to drive sustainable development across all sectors of the state when he becomes Governor in 2027.

A Declaration in Konshisha

Ato made this significant pledge during his official declaration event held before a gathering of PDP stakeholders in Tse-Agberagba, located in the Konshisha Local Government Area. According to a statement released by Msugh Benjamin, the Director of Communications for the Ato Campaign organization, the aspirant was accompanied by key figures including Bem Kurugh from the National Human Rights Commission in Abuja and Comrade Vitalis Hwande, an aspirant for the Gwer-East Assembly seat.

Addressing the audience, Ato expressed deep concern over Benue's prolonged insecurity. He specifically highlighted how the situation has been worsened by the suspension of the Open Grazing Prohibition Law, a landmark achievement of the previous Ortom administration. He lamented that this reversal has led to a surge in attacks, resulting in more internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the state.

He described a situation where farmers are being blocked from accessing their farmlands as completely unacceptable. Ato passionately appealed to the people, urging them to abandon fears and chart a new course towards a secure and prosperous Benue. He called for support for his mission, which focuses on critical areas including security, infrastructure, job creation, economic revival, and education.

Growing Support and Calls for Unity

The event also featured strong statements of support from other PDP chieftains. Dr. Saawuan Tarnongu, a former Education Commissioner from Jechira, urged for unity among all Jechira aspirants to achieve a common goal. He appealed to other Tiv areas to allow Jechira to complete its 8-year cycle in the state's political structure.

Ortese Kpev, the former Deputy Chairman of the Konshisha PDP, commended Ato's ambition and assured him of their support. He cited Ato's proven track record as what makes him highly qualified and advised him to continue consulting widely. Kpev expressed confidence that the PDP is growing stronger and will successfully take back power in the 2027 elections.

Further endorsements came from Rt. Hon. Shimawua Azaigba, a former Member of the State Assembly, and Dr. Terver Akase, a former adviser to the state government. Both described Ato as a humble, competent, and credible candidate and fully backed his primary focus on tackling insecurity.

The event concluded with prayers for success from party elders, ward chairmen, and women and youth leaders, who all assured the aspirant of their unwavering support. Gwaza Ane, the Konshisha PDP Chairman, thanked Ato for choosing the location for his declaration and lauded the impressive turnout. He confidently stated that the people will support his ambition and wished him well in his quest to serve Benue State from 2027.
