Pat Utomi Unveils 'Obidient Connect' Digital Platform Ahead of 2027 Elections
Professor Pat Utomi, the founder of the Big Tent Coalition, has officially launched the Obidient Connect digital civic engagement platform. This initiative is strategically designed to mobilize Nigerians both within the country and across the diaspora in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The unveiling event took place on Tuesday, where Utomi emphasized the platform's role in transforming citizen enthusiasm into organized democratic participation.
Addressing Critical National Challenges
Utomi highlighted that the launch of Obidient Connect comes at a pivotal moment for Nigeria, addressing pressing issues such as insecurity, poverty, institutional weaknesses, and the controversies that surrounded the 2023 elections. He stated that the platform aims to foster a more transparent and accountable electoral process by engaging citizens directly.
The platform will enable users to connect through polling units nationwide and via diaspora groups based in various countries. It will support a range of activities including voter education, mobilization efforts, training programs, and lawful civic engagements. Utomi stressed that this structured approach is essential for building civic power at every level, from local wards to international communities.
Enhanced Transparency and Real-Time Reporting
A key feature of Obidient Connect is its real-time reporting mechanism, which allows certified polling-unit results to be transmitted to a central dashboard. Utomi explained that this innovation is intended to strengthen transparency and public oversight during elections, ensuring that results are accurately and promptly reported.
In addition to its technological capabilities, the coalition has announced a partnership with Naija We Can, a US-registered non-profit organization. This collaboration will manage donations from supporters both in Nigeria and abroad. Utomi assured that all funds raised will be strictly allocated to lawful civic purposes, such as voter education, advocacy campaigns, grassroots organizing, and vote protection measures. He explicitly noted that no donations will be directed to any political party, maintaining the platform's focus on civic engagement rather than partisan politics.
Leadership and Strategic Vision
At the launch event, Charles Odibo was appointed as the coordinator of Obidient Connect. Utomi described Odibo as an experienced communications strategist with the necessary expertise to lead the initiative's rollout effectively. The coalition views the platform as a major tool for civic organizing and enhancing electoral accountability as the nation gears up for the 2027 polls.
Utomi concluded by framing Obidient Connect as a historic bridge between citizen energy and the urgent task of revitalizing Nigeria's democracy. He remarked, "Expression alone is not power. Organisation is power. Obidient Connect answers the critical question of how to organise the hope of millions into structured civic power, at every ward, every polling unit, and across every diaspora community."
