The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has rejected as a fabrication a social media post claiming he endorsed Senator Ishaku Abbo, the Labour Party governorship candidate in Adamawa State, for the 2027 elections. Wike's office, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, issued a statement on Friday, October 23, 2026, urging residents to disregard the report entirely.
Wike's Office Dismisses Endorsement Claim as Fake
The circulating social media post attributed to Wike allegedly encouraged Adamawa residents to vote wisely and described Abbo as the most capable person to govern the state. The post spread widely before the minister's office moved to address it. In the statement, Wike flatly rejected any connection to the message, stating that he had no relationship with the Labour Party or its candidates in Adamawa State.
The denial came after Senator Abbo resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 elections, a move that had drawn political attention. Wike's office made clear that the social media post did not reflect his position in any way.
Wike: Genuine Endorsements Will Be Announced Personally
Wike was equally direct about how any genuine political endorsement from him would be communicated. "Whoever I am supporting, I will use my own mouth to say it," Wike said, according to the statement. The minister emphasized that no such declaration had been made regarding Abbo or any other candidate in Adamawa State.
The former Rivers State governor also urged residents of the state to disregard the report entirely, reinforcing that the social media post was a fabrication. The statement did not specify who was behind the false post but stressed that it did not represent Wike's views.
Wike Questions Peter Obi's IDP Camp Visits
In a separate development, Legit.ng reported that Wike questioned the motive behind Peter Obi's visits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across the country. Wike made the remarks at the Idoma Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Abuja, where he also warned Nigerians against politicians who perform public acts of modesty to win votes ahead of 2027.
Wike's comments come amid growing political maneuvering as the 2027 elections approach, with various politicians and parties positioning themselves. The minister's denial of the Abbo endorsement serves as a clear signal that he intends to control his own political messaging, particularly regarding endorsements.
