Ex-Kaduna Speaker Zailani Announces Senate Bid, Endorses Tinubu and Sani for 2027

Former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, has officially declared his intention to contest the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He described his decision as a divine call to serve his constituents, responding to widespread appeals from across the district.

Public Declaration and Political Alignment

Zailani made his public declaration at Rigachikun Primary School on Saturday, emphasizing that his aspiration is driven by a sense of responsibility rather than personal ambition. He firmly dismissed speculation about an anointed candidate for the Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, asserting his commitment to representing and advancing the interests of the area.

In a significant political move, Zailani anchored his ambition on the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he referred to as his political mentor and father. He urged his supporters to adopt a "joint ticket" strategy, backing his senatorial bid alongside Governor Uba Sani and President Tinubu's re-election campaign in 2027.

Economic and Governance Perspectives

Zailani praised President Tinubu's administration for increasing funding to northern governors through enhanced federal allocations, attributing this development to the removal of fuel subsidies. He noted that states now receive significantly higher monthly revenues, which he argued should be sufficient for governors to pay salaries, execute projects, and address security challenges.

However, he challenged northern governors to justify these funds by delivering tangible development outcomes for their people. Zailani stressed that while the President has met his constitutional obligations by making resources available, the responsibility now rests with state governments to manage these funds effectively. He cautioned leaders against mismanagement, urging them to fear God and act in the best interest of citizens.

Call for Agricultural Support

Addressing agricultural concerns, Zailani called on the Federal Government to intervene in the high cost of fertilizer to support farmers in the North. He proposed a subsidy that would reduce the price of fertilizer to approximately ₦15,000 per bag, aiming to encourage farming activities and boost food production. He highlighted that farmers faced major setbacks in the last planting season due to prohibitive costs of agricultural inputs.

Reaffirmation of Support and Campaign Activities

Reaffirming his political alignment, Zailani endorsed President Tinubu for the 2027 elections and backed Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for a second term. He expressed confidence that both leaders would support his senatorial ambition as he eyes a seat in the Red Chamber, dismissing any talks of anointed candidates.

Following the declaration, Zailani and a large crowd of supporters proceeded on a road show from Rigachikun to the Stadium roundabout to increase awareness about his aspiration. This event marked a significant step in his campaign for the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat.
