Former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, will deliver the keynote address at the 2026 Annual Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch. The event will center on governance reform, economic policy, and institutional accountability.

Chairman of the Annual Law Week Planning Committee, Mr. Chukwudi Kachikwu Enebeli (SAN), announced this while speaking with journalists in Lagos. Fashola will address the theme “Law, Leadership and the Ballot: Governance Beyond Politics” during the opening plenary of the Law Week, which is themed “Altering the Status Quo: Going Against the Norm.”
The event is scheduled to take place from June 19 to June 25 in Ikeja. Enebeli noted that Fashola’s address will draw on his experience as a two-term governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works and Housing, focusing on governance systems that prioritize performance, institutional continuity, and sustainable development beyond political cycles.
Program Highlights
According to Enebeli, the week-long program is designed to stimulate critical conversations on Nigeria’s governance challenges and offer practical solutions to institutional inefficiency, public accountability, and national development.
A major highlight will be the Business Forum themed “Accelerating the Future of the Nigerian Economy,” which will bring together policymakers, economists, and business leaders to examine the country’s economic outlook. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, is among key speakers expected to address trade policy, investment opportunities, industrial growth, and competitiveness.
The Law Week will also feature a Young Lawyers’ Session titled “The Grind Before the Glory,” aimed at mentoring emerging legal practitioners on ethics, career growth, and leadership. Additionally, a Bar and Bench Session titled “What is Expected on the Other Side of the Coin” will be held.
Another highlight is the Alao Aka-Bashorun Memorial Lecture themed “2027: Building a Nation Where No Man is Oppressed.” Other activities include religious services, a health walk, and a Chairman’s Dinner.

Speaking further, the Chairman of the NBA Ikeja Branch, Adeniyi Quadri, described the Annual Law Week as a vital platform for national dialogue, particularly at a time of increasing demand for stronger institutions, transparency, and improved governance outcomes. He stated that the event would culminate in actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening institutional performance and fostering collaboration between the legal profession, government, and the wider society.
Quadri added that registration for all lecture sessions is free and open to members of the legal profession and other interested stakeholders.
