What is VitalReg?
VitalReg operates under the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system, designed to modernize Nigeria's civil registration framework. The NPC emphasizes that the platform reduces delays associated with manual registration, improves data accuracy, and enhances record-keeping for national planning and identity management.
According to the NPC, the platform provides online access, digital certificate issuance where applicable, improved data validation, and a more secure civil registration database. This move is part of broader efforts to ensure every birth and death in Nigeria is accurately captured.

Nigerians can use the self-service portal for birth registration. Here are the steps:
- Create an Account: Visit the NPC online service portal, provide personal details (name, email, National Identification Number), and complete facial verification.
- Select Birth Registration: Choose the relevant service from your dashboard.
- Provide Required Details: Enter information about the child and parent(s). The child must be born in Nigeria, and parents must meet eligibility conditions.
- Submit Application: Submit and track progress through the platform.
- Download Certificate: Once approved, download the certificate (available once after successful application).
Eligibility and Costs
The self-service birth registration is available for children born in Nigeria who meet stated requirements. The NPC notes that birth registration for children under five years remains free at NPC registration centres, but certain self-service options may incur charges.
Death Registration on VitalReg
The platform also covers death registration, allowing citizens to document deaths digitally and obtain relevant records. The NPC said improving death registration will help maintain better population statistics and strengthen civil registration records.
