Plateau State Government Establishes Independent Committee to Probe VIO Misconduct
The Plateau State Government has officially inaugurated an independent committee tasked with investigating serious allegations of misconduct, harassment, and excessive enforcement by officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO). This decisive action follows a surge in public complaints regarding the agency's activities, prompting the state to address concerns over legal and ethical boundaries in traffic enforcement.
Inauguration and Mandate of the Committee
On Friday, February 20, in Jos, the Commissioner for Transport, Davou Jatau, performed the inauguration ceremony, marking a critical step towards transparency and accountability. Jatau emphasized the transport sector's vital role as a pillar of the state's economic growth and social stability, acknowledging the VIO's key function in enforcing vehicle safety standards and traffic regulations.
