China has pledged a RMB 200 million grant to Nigeria to support development projects agreed upon by both governments, according to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai.
The announcement came during a meeting on Thursday between Ambassador Yu and Dunoma Umar Ahmed, the permanent secretary of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to explore stronger diplomatic relations between the two countries.
55 Years of Bilateral Relations
Ambassador Yu highlighted that over the past 55 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, bilateral relations have consistently remained at the forefront of China-Africa relations.
He noted that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Bola Tinubu, the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has entered a new stage of high-quality development.
Commitment to Cooperation
The ambassador said China and Nigeria have maintained close communication and coordination, working together to implement the common understandings reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit, ensuring that more cooperation yields benefits for the peoples of both countries.
To further support Nigeria’s national development and economic growth, China will provide RMB 200 million in grant assistance to Nigeria to implement projects agreed upon by the two governments.
Nigeria's Response
In response, Dr Ahmed thanked China for its concrete support for Nigeria’s economic and social development, saying that the grant assistance fully demonstrates China’s sense of responsibility as a major country and reflects the deep friendship between Nigeria and China.
He said Nigeria will make effective use of the grant assistance, work with China to implement the common understandings on bilateral cooperation reached by the two governments, and further advance Nigeria-China friendship, bringing greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.
