Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, passed away on Thursday morning, July 30, at a hospital in Abuja after a period of medical treatment.
A Distinguished Career in Public Service
Alhaji served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK and also held the position of Minister of Finance between 1990 and 1991 under the administration of former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida. Earlier, he was Minister of State for Budget and Planning in 1988 and served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Turbaned as Sardaunan Sokoto
In 1990, he was turbaned as the Sardaunan Sokoto, a traditional title that succeeded the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello. His death marks the end of a long and influential career in both federal and traditional leadership.
