Kwara North Appeals to Tinubu, AbdulRazaq Over Exclusion

Stakeholders in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State have made an urgent appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to address what they describe as decades of political marginalization and underdevelopment in the Kwara North senatorial district.

Open Letter Highlights Exclusion

In an open letter titled “Moro Local Government and the Quest for Justice in Kwara North,” signed by Aliyu Ibrahim, the stakeholders detailed how the local government has been sidelined since the return to democracy in 1999. Despite being one of five local governments in Kwara North, Moro has not produced a senator, House of Representatives member, minister, ambassador, or any major state or federal office holder in nearly 25 years.

The letter notes that other local governments in the district—Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi—have repeatedly held strategic political positions at both state and federal levels, while Moro remains excluded from the power structure. This alleged exclusion has significantly contributed to the area's underdevelopment, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Infrastructure and Social Services Decay

The stakeholders cited the deplorable condition of the Shao–Moro and Jebba–Moro roads, stating that poor road networks continue to hinder transportation, economic activities, and access to healthcare services in many communities. They also lamented inadequate healthcare facilities and overcrowded schools, arguing that Moro has suffered from years of poor political representation and lack of advocacy.

“Moro stands alone. Over nearly a quarter of a century, Moro has not produced a senator, a member of the House of Representatives, a minister or ambassador, or any notable federal board appointee,” the stakeholders said in the statement.

Diverse Ethnic Composition

The group dismissed narratives portraying Moro as politically isolated within Kwara North, emphasizing that the local government is home to diverse ethnic groups including Yoruba, Nupe, Hausa, and Baruba communities living peacefully together.

They urged political leaders in Kwara State to support the emergence of a candidate from Moro for the Kwara North Senatorial seat in 2027, saying it would promote fairness, inclusion, and balanced political representation in the district.

Appeal for Presidential and Gubernatorial Intervention

The stakeholders appealed to President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq to intervene by addressing what they called appointment imbalance and prioritizing infrastructure development in Moro communities. They called for immediate action to correct the historical neglect and ensure equitable development across all parts of Kwara North.
