Ogun Residents Urge Presidential Candidates to Focus on Security and Economy
Some residents of Ogun State have called on presidential candidates of various political parties to prioritize tackling insecurity, improving electricity supply, and addressing economic hardship if elected in 2027. They lamented that these challenges have placed immense pressure on citizens, with many no longer feeling safe in or outside their homes.
The residents noted that the poor state of the economy has made it difficult for people to enjoy the quality of life they desire. They decried the worsening insecurity and economic hardship, which have continued to exert tremendous pressure on citizens. According to them, people no longer feel secure in their homes or while carrying out daily activities, while economic difficulties have significantly reduced their quality of life and purchasing power.
Views from Residents
An engineer, Tajudeen Bamidele, said: 'We have seen many politicians emerge as presidential candidates of APM, PDP, APC, but I have not seen a tangible party that can beat APC because most parties are factional, which could affect opposition candidates. Our leaders are not good to the people. I remember when Tinubu came on board, he promised that if he did not resolve electricity, we should not vote him for a second term. I expect any presidential candidate who emerges in 2027 to solve insecurity, hunger, and the bad economy.'
Another resident, Seun Sekoni, a computer analyst, said: 'The country needs a leader that can solve insecurity and is accountable. It is sad that we have had many promises from previous administrations but none fulfilled. I do not trust any of these politicians, but for Tinubu, Jonathan, and others emerging as candidates, I think if any becomes president, insecurity should be the first priority, followed by hunger and consistent inflation.'
A provisions seller, Monsurat Akindele, said: 'We expect the next president to consider insecurity. It is sad that for the past three weeks, school children kidnapped in Oyo State have not been rescued. The second thing is to resolve the economic hardship and hunger bedeviling the nation.'
