House of Representatives Applauds Jimoh Ibrahim's United Nations Ambassadorial Posting
The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has praised the ambassadorial posting of Jimoh Ibrahim to the United Nations, describing it as a strategic move that could significantly enhance Nigeria's global influence and contribute to international peacebuilding initiatives. In a statement to reporters in Abuja, Agbese commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment, emphasizing that it reflects a deliberate effort to reposition Nigeria's diplomatic presence and amplify its voice in multilateral engagements.
Strategic Benefits for Nigeria and Global Community
Agbese, a Benue lawmaker who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party (LP), asserted that Ibrahim's appointment is not only beneficial to Nigeria but also valuable to the global community. He highlighted that the senator's extensive background in legislation, business, and public service equips him to make meaningful contributions to diplomacy, particularly during a period of rising geopolitical tensions. Agbese expressed strong confidence that Ibrahim's role at the United Nations will aid efforts to promote dialogue, foster stability, and support the peaceful resolution of conflicts in volatile regions such as the Middle East.
Bridging Diplomatic and Economic Gaps
Furthermore, Agbese noted that this appointment could help bridge diplomatic and economic gaps between Africa and the rest of the world, ensuring stronger cooperation and better representation of the continent's interests on the global stage. He dismissed criticisms surrounding the posting, insisting that Ibrahim possesses the intellectual depth and leadership capacity required for the role. Agbese added that the new envoys are expected to advance Nigeria's foreign policy objectives, promote economic diplomacy, and attract investment to the country.
Call for Support and Upholding Nigeria's Image
In his remarks, Agbese urged the appointees to uphold Nigeria's image and justify the confidence placed in them by the administration. He also called on citizens to support the government's efforts to strengthen international partnerships for national development, emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving these diplomatic goals.
