US Vice President J.D. Vance has called off his planned trip to Switzerland, and Iran has postponed further negotiations with the United States, according to recent announcements. The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed that talks scheduled for Friday, June 19, between Iran and the US have been canceled, hours after the White House scrapped Vance's travel plans.
White House Cites Logistical Issues
The White House stated that Vice President Vance would not travel to Switzerland on Thursday night as originally planned. A spokesperson attributed the decision to unresolved logistical arrangements related to the next phase of negotiations. Vance had previously indicated his intention to visit Switzerland but noted that the timing was not finalized.
Iran Suspends Delegation Amid Israeli Attacks
Lebanon's Al Mayadeen television network reported Thursday evening that Iran's negotiating delegation suspended its trip to Switzerland in response to Israel's continued attacks on southern Lebanon. The delegation had been preparing to launch the first round of 60-day talks before deciding to put the journey on hold.
Tehran has warned that Israel's military operations, extending up to 10 kilometers inside Lebanese territory, violate the first clause of the memorandum of understanding and the framework agreement between Iran and the United States. The 14-point memorandum, reached between Tehran and Washington, commits both sides to ending all military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.
