Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to rural road infrastructure, emphasizing that improving access to communities and alleviating the suffering of residents in the largely riverine state are his primary motivations.
Governor Inspects Ekeremor-Ndoro Road Project
During an inspection of the ongoing Ekeremor-Ndoro section of the Ekeremor-Agge road in Ekeremor Local Council on Thursday, Diri stated that the project, which includes a spur to Peretorugbene community, will be completed on schedule despite the challenging terrain.
A statement by his spokesperson, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as expressing satisfaction with the work carried out by Lubrik Construction Company (LCC), noting the company's proven track record with the state government. He cited roads constructed in the New Yenagoa City, one of which was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on April 10, 2026.
Governor's Remarks on Development
“We all know what it takes to construct a one kilometre road in Bayelsa State. If we surmounted the Nembe-Brass road terrain, this will not be an exception,” Diri said. “For me, I am development-oriented; I want to see the suffering of my people end, and that is what I am doing.”
“I am very satisfied with the level of work I have seen today, and this is not a new company to us as a government. This company has been working with the Bayelsa State government since I assumed office as governor. The very beautiful New Yenagoa City roads that you see were constructed by this company.”
Project Progress and Benefits
The project manager of LCC, Abu Saheed, reported that about seven kilometres of the 28km road already have a stone base, and with the state government's support, the job will be delivered on time next year. Regarding the major bridge under construction, he stated that all materials are at the company's yard and piling will be completed in two months.
Observations from The Guardian indicate that sand-filling of the road is approaching Peretorugbene community. The project is a critical link to the deep seaport at Agge and is expected to boost economic activities, ease transportation for communities along the stretch, reduce travel time, and enhance security in the state's western flank.
Dignitaries Accompanying the Governor
Those who accompanied the governor on the inspection included Deputy Governor Peter Akpe; members representing Sagbama Constituency II and III in the House of Assembly, Bernard Kenebai and Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown respectively; APC senatorial candidate for Bayelsa West, Chief Fidelis Agbiki; state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Solomon Agwana; as well as members of the state executive council and other government functionaries.
