Commissioner's Message

Ali Makoda, the Kano State Commissioner of Education, extended warm wishes to students, teachers, parents, and the entire education community. He wished them a peaceful and joyous Eid Al Adha celebration, highlighting the significance of the festival in the Islamic faith.

Significance of Eid Al Adha

Eid Al Adha, also known as Eid Al Kabir, is a major Muslim festival that marks the end of the annual pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. The holiday begins with Arafat Day on Dhu Al Hijjah 9 and continues through Dhu Al Hijjah 10, 11, and 12. According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Muhammad instituted the celebration of Eid Al Adha.

The festival is characterized by special congregational prayers, known as Salat al-Eid, held at mosques or open grounds. Muslims dress in new clothes and gather for prayers, followed by the sacrifice of an animal, visits to family and friends, and sharing food with loved ones and the needy. This commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's obedience to God, who provided a ram to sacrifice instead of his son.
