Lagos Completes 362 Roads, Advances Urban Regeneration

The Lagos State Government has announced the completion of 362 roads covering approximately 347.17 kilometres since 2019, as part of a broader urban regeneration initiative aimed at tackling infrastructural deficits across the state. Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, disclosed this during a ministerial press briefing marking the third year of the governor's second term.

Urban Regeneration Projects Underway

Daramola explained that the state embarked on urban regeneration projects to address environmental and infrastructural challenges that led to the collapse of some road networks in Ikeja GRA, Ikoyi, and Lagos Island. The Ikeja Regeneration Project includes roads such as Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Oba Dosunmu, Sobo Arobiodu, and Sasegbon streets. The Ikoyi road network comprises Macpherson, Oyinkan Abayomi, Femi Okunnu, Ilabere, Ilu, Inupa, Adeyemi Lawson, and Kuramo roads. On Lagos Island, projects cover Adeniji Adele, Okepopo, Tapa, Idumagbo, Ojo Giwa, Iga Iduganran, and Oroyinyin streets.

Focus on Resilient Infrastructure

The Special Adviser emphasised that the government is investing in resilient infrastructure to support economic competitiveness, enhance connectivity, and improve daily life for over 20 million Lagosians. Several strategic projects are at advanced stages, including the Igbogbo–Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Igbe Road and the Agric–Isawo–Konu–Arepo Road. Despite economic challenges like rising construction costs and inflation, the state has completed 362 roads since 2019.

In the Badagry axis, projects include Aradagun, Mosafejo, Ajido, Imeke Road, and Hospital Road Phase II.

Ongoing and Upcoming Projects

The Office of Infrastructure is set to commission 12 newly completed road projects and has accelerated work on 181 ongoing road and bridge projects. Since the last ministerial briefing, an additional 130 roads covering 113.25 kilometres have been completed, alongside strategic bridge and transport projects to reduce travel time, improve safety, and stimulate economic activities.

Economic Corridors

Transformational projects awaiting commissioning include the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway corridor from Admiralty to Epe, providing access to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, which hosts the Dangote Refinery and other major industries. The Lagos-Badagry Expressway and Lekki-Epe Expressway are described as major highways of economic importance, facilitating socio-economic exchanges with West African neighbours.

Public Works Corporation Interventions

The Lagos State Public Works Corporation has intervened on approximately 957 roads from June 2025 to date, cumulatively delivering interventions on about 4,209 roads covering over 506 kilometres since 2019. Daramola lauded the administration's commitment to strategic infrastructure delivery, noting that investments in roads, bridges, pedestrian infrastructure, and integrated transport systems have addressed mobility, travel time, safety, and economic growth challenges.
