The Lagos State Government has called on developers and other stakeholders in the building sector to actively engage with its Electronic Physical Planning Permit System (e-PPPS), a critical initiative designed to improve the ease of doing business in the state's construction industry. The government reaffirmed that the e-PPPS is a digital platform aimed at streamlining physical planning processes across Lagos, enabling stakeholders to conveniently apply for permits and fitness certificates from any location, thereby simplifying procedures and reducing turnaround times.
Commissioner Highlights Benefits
Speaking at a stakeholders' engagement held over the weekend in Lagos, the state's Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, explained that the introduction of the e-PPPS underscores the government's commitment to leveraging technology to enhance service delivery in the built environment. Dr. Olumide encouraged stakeholders and the general public to actively engage with the platform, emphasizing that its adoption would foster greater efficiency, accountability, and transparency in physical planning processes. He also reiterated the state government's resolve to ensure that all development activities within the state align with established regulatory standards.
Revenue and Compliance
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Abdul Kabir Opeyemi Ogungbo, commended the initiative as a strategic move toward improving revenue generation and compliance within the building sector. He highlighted the importance of integrating digital solutions into governance systems to promote seamless service delivery and eliminate bottlenecks associated with manual processes.
Technical Details
A planner, Victor Akinyelure, who spoke on the technical details of the new initiative, described the e-PPPS as a comprehensive "one-stop shop" for all physical planning needs. According to him, the web-based system will facilitate the submission of applications, processing of approvals, issuance of permits, and stage certification, including building certification processes. He further explained that the platform will enable users to carry out all required procedures remotely, thereby eliminating the need for multiple visits to physical offices.
"The system is designed to promote transparency, efficiency, and a smart processing experience for all users, in line with global best practices," he said.
