LASG Reaffirms Data-Driven Governance for SDGs

Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to evidence-based governance, coordination, and measurable impact through reliable data to ensure development efforts improve residents' lives. Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, made this known during the 2026 yearly media briefing marking the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term. She stressed that Lagos is strengthening progress tracking by integrating data across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Data-Driven Initiatives

Finnih noted that this approach has yielded visible outcomes, particularly through Lagos State's leadership in the Human Capital Development (HCD) 2.0 Core Working Group. The initiative helps design and implement people-centered interventions in health, education, and social development backed by evidence. She also highlighted the successful coordination of Lagos State's second Voluntary Local Review (VLR), which brought together communities, stakeholders, and development partners to assess SDG progress locally.

Enforcement in Business Districts

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Central Business Districts (CBD) office arrested and prosecuted 859 offenders across Lagos Island and Ikeja business districts to restore order, improve sanitation, and enforce compliance. Special Adviser on Central Business Districts, Mrs Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, disclosed this during the briefing. She also revealed that seven erring officials were suspended for misconduct and insubordination. The agency continued aggressive enforcement and environmental restoration in key areas including Inner Marina, Broad Street, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dosumu, Ebute-Ero, Martins Street, and Idumota.

Other Milestones

Other achievements include the second Advocacy for Women's Financial Inclusion focusing on underserved communities, improved policy alignment across MDAs for a unified 2030 agenda, and expanded awareness initiatives such as SDG clubs in primary schools and social impact cinema projects to inspire behavioral change among youths. Finnih added that Lagos remains active in global sustainability conversations, participating in forums like the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the Rabat, Khartoum, and Niamey Processes to align development priorities with global best practices.
