Senator Joseph Ikpea, representing Edo Central Senatorial District, has thrown his weight behind Governor Monday Okpebholo's proposal for the speedy trial of kidnappers and cultists in Edo State. The senator commended the governor's recent efforts in combating crime, particularly the rescue of a woman kidnapped at the popular Vegetable Market and the arrest of a gang member.
Governor's Anti-Crime Initiative
During a parade of suspected kidnappers on Thursday, Governor Okpebholo announced plans to establish a special court dedicated to trying suspected kidnappers and cultists within two weeks. He also vowed to sign death warrants and ensure public executions at Ring Road roundabout in Benin City. Additionally, the governor rewarded the police with N10 million for their dexterity in arresting the Vegetable Market kidnappers.
Senator's Endorsement
In a statement on Friday, Senator Ikpea praised the governor's prompt directive to security agencies, which led to the rescue of the kidnapped woman and the arrest of a suspect. He described the action as a clear signal to criminals that Edo State is no safe haven and a confidence booster for citizens.
Ikpea reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with the state government to ensure security in Edo Central and across the state. He also urged indigenes and residents to treat security as a civic responsibility, stating that when everyone is involved, criminals will either repent or relocate.
