A mother of three and a nurse at a major hospital in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has formally opposed her husband's application for a DNA test on their only daughter. The case is being heard at the Akwa Ibom State High Court.
Background of the Dispute
According to reports, the husband, an engineer, filed a petition seeking to establish the paternity of their two-year-old daughter. He alleges that his wife's pastor is the biological father of the child. The engineer further claims that his wife would often leave home under the pretext of “night duty,” but was allegedly traced to a hotel.
Woman's Objection
In an update on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the woman opposed the DNA test application, arguing that it would cause emotional trauma to the child. The journalist and judiciary reporter, Harrison Essien, reported that the respondent stated that subjecting the child to a DNA test would be emotionally traumatic and not in her best interest.
Husband's Response
The plaintiff, an engineer, insisted on the test, stating that he is ready to bear the cost. He maintains that the test is necessary to resolve the paternity issue.
The court is yet to rule on the matter, which has drawn significant public attention in Akwa Ibom State.
