The traditional ruler of Ise-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Adetunji David Ajayi, has issued a passionate appeal to government authorities for immediate intervention to address the deteriorating infrastructure in his community.
A Plea for Comprehensive Development
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Oba Ajayi emphasized that the poor state of numerous internal and access roads within Ise-Ekiti is a primary concern. He stated that robust road networks are essential for boosting economic activities, ensuring safe transportation for residents, and facilitating the successful hosting of cultural events like the upcoming Ojoaduse festival.
The monarch, who addressed journalists to herald the Ojoaduse festival and community development initiatives, argued that the need extends beyond just roads. He listed health facilities, educational institutions, water supply, electricity, drainage, and environmental sanitation as public infrastructures requiring urgent renewal and upgrading.
Infrastructure as a Catalyst for Growth
Oba Ajayi made a respectful yet strong appeal on behalf of his people, calling for increased attention from both state and federal governments. He stressed that modern infrastructure is fundamental to improving the quality of life, attracting investment, and curbing the trend of rural-urban migration.
"Ise-Ekiti has the potential to grow into a model semi-urban community if supported with the necessary infrastructural framework," the Oba asserted. He expressed confidence that a sincere partnership between the government and the community could address these needs in a sustainable and impactful manner.
He specifically urged relevant authorities to prioritize the construction and rehabilitation of town roads to enhance connectivity and stimulate local development.
Ojoaduse Festival: A Cultural Cornerstone
While focusing on developmental issues, Oba Ajayi also shed light on the significance of the Ojoaduse festival. He described it as a timeless cultural institution deeply rooted in the history and identity of Ise-Ekiti people, calling it a sacred expression of their values and ancestral legacy.
He urged indigenes both at home and in the diaspora to take full ownership of the festival, noting that it is not solely the responsibility of the palace or a select few. The monarch appreciated the selfless and patriotic roles already played by the community's sons and daughters.
Highlighting the event's importance, Oba Ajayi revealed that high-profile guests were expected, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, along with senators and other members of the National Assembly.
