Ogun Community Pleads for Urgent Road Repair Amid Deteriorating Conditions

Residents of Imala community, located in Abeokuta North Local Council of Ogun State, have voiced their distress over the deplorable condition of the sole road connecting their area. They emphasize that years of neglect by previous administrations have rendered the road nearly impassable, posing significant risks to travelers and hindering community development.

Community Concerns and Historical Context

The residents, primarily from Ward 14 of the council, expressed deep concern that the road's state could worsen during rainy seasons, potentially leading to complete inaccessibility. They have urgently appealed to the administration led by Governor Dapo Abiodun to address this issue before it escalates further.

Steve Adetomiwa, the coordinator of Imala Community Development, highlighted that the road has deteriorated to a dangerous level, describing it as a death trap for those who use it. He noted that the road was originally constructed by Obafemi Awolowo, the Premier of Southern Nigeria, but has since seen no substantial government intervention or maintenance.

Appeal to Governor Dapo Abiodun

In a formal appeal, Adetomiwa stated, "On behalf of Imala Ward 14 community in Abeokuta North, we appreciate your two-term tenure as Governor of Ogun State and wish you continued success in your future endeavours. Imala, the headquarters of the former Western regional administration in Abeokuta North, hereby appeals for the reconstruction of the 7.5-kilometre road that runs across the township. Ward 14 voted massively for you in both governorship elections."

The community believes that the governor's intervention would deliver much-needed democratic dividends and foster meaningful development within the constituency. They added, "The road, originally constructed by Awolowo, is now in a deplorable condition, adversely affecting the growth of the community. Ifekayode, your Special Adviser, and Tella can attest that this request has been consistently raised, including during past campaign engagements. We will be grateful for your prompt intervention."

This situation underscores broader issues of infrastructure neglect in local communities, calling for immediate action to ensure safety and promote economic growth.
