Abia Assembly Passed 38 of 75 Bills in Three Years

Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Honorable Emmanuel Emeruwa, has disclosed that the House considered 75 bills and passed 38 over the past three years. Emeruwa made this known on Tuesday while addressing journalists during the third anniversary of the 8th Assembly, which was inaugurated on June 14, 2023.

Legislative Achievements and Collaboration

The Speaker, who represents Aba South State Constituency, emphasized that the House has worked harmoniously with the executive and judicial arms of government. He noted that the Assembly granted partial autonomy to local governments, though full financial autonomy was not achieved. Oversight functions have been conducted in accordance with the law, and the finances of various state-controlled sectors are being audited by the House.

Addressing Allegations of Rubber-Stamping

Emeruwa refuted claims that the Assembly acts as a rubber stamp for the executive. He stated that when disagreements arise, they are handled with civility and resolved amicably rather than through open confrontation.
