The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has unanimously passed a vote of confidence in its National President, Mohammed Shehu, and Secretary-General, Joshua Apebo. This decision was reached during the association's Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in Abuja.
Meeting Attendance and Representation
The meeting was attended by chapter and branch chairmen from across the federation, as well as chairmen of the 112 units from federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The broad representation underscored the widespread support for the current leadership.
Commitment to Members' Welfare
The association reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to pursuing the welfare of all its members. It highlighted several achievements since the leadership assumed office on August 12, 2024, during the fifth Quadrennial National Delegates Conference in Lagos.
Key accomplishments include convincing the Federal Government to restore gratuity payments to public service employees, effective January 2026. The payment of gratuity had been suspended since 2004 following the introduction of the Pension Reforms Act, which did not explicitly abolish it.
Other Achievements
The ASCSN also secured the government's agreement to pay arrears of wage awards to public service employees in federal MDAs for April and May. Additionally, the government agreed to pay newly recruited teachers in the 110 unity schools across the country and to begin settling outstanding promotion and salary arrears in these schools, with plans to extend to other MDAs.
Furthermore, the Federal Government launched a N10 billion housing loan scheme aimed at increasing access to affordable homeownership for federal public service employees.
The association assured that it remains focused and determined to continue addressing other welfare issues for the benefit of its members.
