FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-el-Kabir

The Federal Government has officially declared tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year's Eid al-Adha celebration. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja yesterday.

Government's Respect for Faith and Heritage

In his statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the declaration underscores the Federal Government's deep respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who join the global Islamic community in observing this sacred occasion. He conveyed warm felicitations from the government to all Muslim faithful, both at home and abroad, noting that the festival holds profound spiritual significance rooted in sacrifice, obedience, and compassion.

Call for Prayer and Reflection

The minister urged citizens to utilize the two-day holiday for prayer and sober reflection, seeking divine guidance as the country navigates its path toward sustained peace, security, and economic prosperity. He added that in the spirit of shared humanity, brotherhood, and national unity, the government wishes all Muslims a peaceful and joyous celebration.

NASFAT Urges Peace and Unity

Meanwhile, the President of Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulRauf, has called on Muslims to uphold the values of peace, sacrifice, compassion, and unity as they celebrate Eid al-Adha. In a statement released yesterday, AbdulRauf congratulated Nigerian Muslims and their counterparts globally, describing Eid al-Adha as a period of prayer, reflection, and charity. He reminded the faithful that the festival highlights the importance of faith, sacrifice, and caring for the less privileged in society.
