APC Group Urges Tinubu to Call Senator Wadada to Order Over Alleged Undemocratic Tactics
A sociopolitical organization known as the Nasarawa People Mandate Group has issued a stern warning regarding the potential consequences of alleged high-handed actions by All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant Senator Ahmed Wadada. The group contends that these actions could lead to significant chaos within the party and ultimately jeopardize its anticipated victory in the upcoming elections.
Allegations of Blackmail and Intimidation
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Emmanuel Zachary and Ahmed Umar, the group accused Senator Wadada of transforming political competition into a dangerous game of blackmail and strong-arm tactics. They emphasized that such intimidation and blackmail are likely to foster animosity and disintegration within the APC ranks, undermining party unity at a critical time.
"Political aspiration is a constitutionally guaranteed right for every citizen," the statement declared. "Everyone should be free to pursue their political aspirations without fear or hindrance. A situation where a contestant resorts to undemocratic tactics to scare away fellow aspirants is not only despicable but also dangerous to our maturing democracy."
Call for Democratic Principles
The group further argued that democracy fundamentally revolves around numbers and popular support. They asserted that any aspirant who believes in their popularity should focus on marketing themselves to the people and stakeholders, allowing party members to democratically choose the best candidate. With stakeholders commendably favoring direct primaries, the group stressed that power should reside with the people rather than in authoritarian practices that some individuals might attempt to impose.
The sociopolitical umbrella also raised serious concerns about allegations that Wadada is utilizing anti-corruption agencies and certain senior government officials to suppress formidable aspirants. They described this behavior as unhealthy for democracy and warned that it could backfire if not promptly addressed.
Appeals to National and State Leadership
In response to these concerns, the Nasarawa People Mandate Group has made a direct appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to call Senator Wadada to order and ensure adherence to democratic norms within the party. Additionally, the group called upon Governor Abdullahi Sule to remain resolute in providing a level playing field for all aspirants, resisting any pressures from name-dropping and blackmail tactics.
This development highlights growing tensions within the APC in Nasarawa State as the election season approaches, with internal conflicts threatening to destabilize the party's prospects. The group's statement serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining democratic integrity and fair competition in political processes.
