Sam Amadi, director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, declared on Sunday, June 21, 2026, that Peter Obi is likely to win the 2027 presidential election. Amadi, a governance expert, made the prediction in response to a post on X by activist Aisha Yesufu, who discussed claims by supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) comparing off-season polls and by-elections to general elections.
Analysis of Election Patterns
Amadi argued that incumbents mostly win off-season elections, but presidential elections follow a different pattern. He wrote on X: "I never see deliberate and pretended folly. Anyone who looks back at 2023 will see the same pattern. Incumbents mostly won off-seasons. But the presidential election was different, and would be different." He added: "Peter Obi will likely win again. Only now, there could be a better ground operation to protect the vote."
Obi's Campaign and Opposition Dynamics
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, is the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections. He faces President Bola Tinubu of the APC and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In contrast, former Ekiti state governor Ayodele Fayose predicted that the division between Atiku and Obi would benefit Tinubu. Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that the opposition's failure to unite under one party weakens its chances of defeating Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
