Saraki, Olubadan to Headline Media Dialogue in Abuja

A major media and political event is set to take place in the nation's capital later this month, featuring prominent figures from Nigeria's political landscape. The 23rd edition of the prestigious Daily Trust Dialogue will be held on January 22 at the NAF Conference Centre & Suites in Abuja.

Saraki to Chair Dialogue on Nigeria's Fourth Republic

According to an official statement released by the Media Trust Group, the event will be chaired by former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki. Saraki, a two-term governor of Kwara State and former senator representing Kwara Central, has accepted to preside over the dialogue. The theme for this year's critical conversation is "Nigeria's Fourth Republic: What is Working and What is Not."

The statement, signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust Group, Ahmed Shekarau, highlighted that Saraki will bring his wealth of experience spanning nearly three decades as both a key political actor and a keen observer at national and sub-national levels to the role of chairman.

Royalty and Political Experience in Attendance

Adding royal weight and further political insight to the occasion will be the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour. Oba Ladoja, crowned as the 44th Olubadan in September 2025, is himself a significant political figure. He served as the governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2007 and was a senator representing Oyo South during the Third Republic between 1992 and 1993.

The dialogue is expected to host a wide array of public figures from within and outside the government. These speakers are slated to deliver extensive remarks and engage in discussions centered on the state of the nation's democracy since 1999.

Significance of the Annual Gathering

The Daily Trust Dialogue has established itself as a pivotal platform for robust and insightful discourse on Nigeria's most pressing national issues. This year's focus on an assessment of the Fourth Republic promises to generate critical analysis and forward-looking solutions. The choice of seasoned leaders like Saraki and Ladoja underscores the dialogue's aim to leverage deep institutional memory and practical governance experience.

The event is anticipated to draw attention from policymakers, analysts, and the general public interested in the trajectory of Nigeria's democratic journey. The insights and recommendations that emerge from the dialogue could influence public debate and policy direction in the coming year.
