The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of instigating a factional crisis within the People’s Redemption Party (PRP). The allegation follows a visit by PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed to the ADC leadership.
Origins of the Crisis
In a post on X, Abdullahi stated that shortly after Baba-Ahmed's visit, rumors surfaced that the ADC coalition leadership was considering the PRP as an option. Although these rumors were unfounded, they sparked the emergence of a faction challenging Baba-Ahmed's leadership in what had been a historically tranquil political party.
Shrinking Democratic Space
Abdullahi lamented that this situation reflects the shrinking democratic space in Nigeria under the APC-led government. He asserted that while the government denies involvement in crises within other parties, the pattern is unmistakable. He warned that the path leads to national instability.
Call for Caution
The ADC spokesperson questioned whether anyone within the APC could caution those engineering crises in opposition parties, emphasizing that they are sowing seeds of national instability. He argued that a political strategy based on sabotaging opposition platforms is ultimately self-destructive, leaving people with no options and thus no choice.
