Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Political Crisis Deepens as Salisu Rejects APC Peace Bid
Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Crisis: Salisu Shuns APC Reconciliation

The rift within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State continues to widen as key political actors from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency have rejected the party's reconciliation mechanism. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had last week established a high-powered reconciliation panel, chaired by Alhaji Bala Gwugwurura, to resolve differences arising from the consensus arrangement process. Other members of the committee include Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zahara'u, among others.

Several aspirants have refused to accept the outcome of the consensus arrangement, insisting on primary elections to produce the party's candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections. At the commencement of the reconciliation meeting held yesterday at the Government House, stakeholders from across the 44 local government areas expressed grievances over the process, seeking proper reconciliation to avert an internal crisis.

The reconciliation process, however, hit a critical stalemate following the absence of stakeholders and aspirants from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, a constituency currently attracting public attention due to the political rivalry between the incumbent lawmaker, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and House of Representatives aspirant, Air Vice Marshal Salisu Yusha'u (retired). Those who refused to honor the committee's invitation include the Chairperson of Tudun-Wada Local Government and Kano State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa'adatu Salisu Yusha'u, alongside her husband, Salisu Yusha'u. In contrast, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a serving member, attended and participated in the reconciliation meeting.

The crisis erupted in the constituency following an endorsement of the serving member, Hon. Doguwa, to contest the 2027 election under the APC platform, a position reportedly favored by Governor Yusuf. Speaking with The Guardian on the development, the Secretary to the Committee, Professor Nura Yaro D-Tofa, confirmed that both Hajiya Sa'adatu and Salisu Yusha'u were absent from the meeting without any prior notice.

The secretary explained that the reconciliation exercise remains ongoing and has so far covered more than seven federal constituencies and 13 state assembly constituencies across Kano State. According to him, the process has been progressing smoothly, with the committee optimistic of concluding the assignment successfully within the shortest possible time. The reconciliation committee reiterated its commitment to ensuring unity, cooperation, and collective success for the APC as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

Observers believe the development may be interpreted as a lack of commitment to peace and unity efforts within the APC and could send negative political signals ahead of the 2027 general elections. The continued absence of key stakeholders from Doguwa/Tudun-Wada underscores the deep divisions within the party, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the reconciliation process. As the APC strives to present a united front, the rejection of peace bids by influential figures like Salisu Yusha'u threatens to undermine party cohesion and electoral prospects in the region.
