17 ADC Reps Defect to NDC in Major Political Shift

Seventeen members of the House of Representatives have officially defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). The defections were announced on the floor of the House during plenary on Tuesday, May 5, marking a significant shift in the political landscape.

Background of Defections

This development follows the recent defection of prominent political figures over the weekend. On Sunday, May 3, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former presidential flagbearer of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), also moved from ADC to NDC. This has added a fresh twist to the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

Additional Defection to APC

During the same plenary session, the defection of Leke Abejide from ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was also announced, further diversifying the political realignments.
