Dr. Yakubu Maccido Ahmad, the Senior Special Assistant to the Sokoto State Governor on Inter-Party Relations and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed confidence that the opposition poses no threat to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto's re-election in 2027. In an interview, he highlighted the governor's developmental strides and dismissed opposition moves as ineffective.
Governor's Nine-Point Smart Agenda Achievements
Maccido asserted that Governor Aliyu has fulfilled his campaign promises under the Nine-point Smart Agenda, impacting sectors like education, water supply, security, Islamic development, and health. He noted the beautification of Sokoto city, describing it as one of Nigeria's modern capitals due to the governor's architectural vision.
Security and Youth Empowerment
On security, Maccido praised the establishment of the State Community Security Guard and procurement of military vehicles to combat banditry. He emphasized the governor's tough stance on informants and consistent funding for security operations. Regarding youth empowerment, he cited mass employment into the civil service and teaching service board as measures to reduce crime.
Opposition Weakness and APC Unity
Maccido dismissed opposition parties like the ADC and PDP, stating that their leaders were former followers of Senator Aliyu Wamakko and are no match for the governor. He revealed that many grassroots opposition leaders plan to defect to the APC. He assured that the governor's performance, not rigging, would secure victory, referencing the 2023 landslide win against the incumbent PDP.
Political Stability and Projects
His office promotes inter-party peace, and the governor acts as a father figure to all politicians. On abandoned projects like the State Teaching Hospital, Maccido cited fiscal accountability issues, noting the governor's commitment to completion after scrutiny. He dismissed claims of internal APC divisions, describing the party as one big family with multiple leaders but unified loyalty.
