Accord Party Dismisses Imumolen's Suspension of Chairman as 'Laughable'
Accord Party Rejects Imumolen's Suspension of Chairman

The national leadership of the Accord Party has strongly dismissed what it describes as the laughable suspension of its National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, by former presidential candidate Prof. Chris Imumolen.

Desperate Attempt for Relevance

In a statement released on Friday, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, characterized Imumolen's actions as a desperate attempt to regain lost political relevance. The party leadership described the event held in Keffi, Nasarawa State, where Imumolen announced the purported suspension, as nothing more than a jamboree staged with non-members of the party.

The Accord Party stated that Imumolen's actions were consistent with his fallen political ego and his alleged history of attempting to hijack the party in violation of its constitution. According to the official statement, Imumolen was actually expelled by the National Executive Committee on November 20, 2024, a decision he never challenged or appealed.

Court Dismisses Imumolen's Lawsuit

The party revealed that Imumolen's subsequent lawsuit against the national leadership was dismissed by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo for lack of jurisdiction. The judgment was delivered by Justice Fatima A. Aliyu on July 17, 2025, in Suit No. CV/3823/24 and Motion No. M/11942/2024.

In her ruling, Justice Aliyu stated: From the totality of the issues and authorities considered, it is clear that the subject matter of this suit pertains to a non-justiciable intra-party leadership dispute. The court struck out the suit for want of jurisdiction, noting that the inclusion of Federal Government agencies as defendants raised issues that fell solely within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.

The court's ruling further confirms that Imumolen is no longer a member of our great party, let alone qualified to convene a purported stakeholders meeting, the Accord Party emphasized in their statement.

No Leadership Crisis in Accord Party

The party insisted that there is no leadership crisis within its ranks and described Imumolen's actions as those of a drowning man looking for a straw to hold. They affirmed that Maxwell Mgbudem remains the authentic national chairman of Accord, duly recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission and listed on the Commission's website.

All members of the party are in one accord and will not be distracted by the activities of its expelled members and their sponsors, the statement read. The party added that their intention is to destabilize the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Accord Party under Barr. Mgbudem's leadership has been reorganized and repositioned as a formidable progressive mass movement in the quest for a better, greater and prosperous democratic nation. The party urged Nigerians to disregard Imumolen's activities, stressing that the Keffi gathering was not a legitimate organ of the party but an attempt to mislead unsuspecting members of the public through cheap publicity.
