The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has given its approval to the results of the party's recently concluded primaries. Additionally, the NEC has extended the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) by twelve months.
Key Decisions at the NEC Meeting
In a statement issued by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the NEC also recognized former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as a prisoner of conscience.
Approval of Primaries Results
The statement read: "NEC approved the results of all recently conducted primaries for State Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly, State Governors, and the Presidential elections; except those with pending appeals as at May 29, 2026, and those yet to be concluded."
Extension of NWC Tenure
Furthermore, the NEC approved the extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee for a period of 12 months from the expiry of their current tenure. This move is aimed at ensuring continuity and stability within the party's leadership structure.
Establishment of Caretaker Committees
The NEC also approved the constitution of Caretaker Committees at the Zonal, State, Local Government, and Ward levels for a period of 12 months. These committees will oversee party activities and prepare for future elections.
Recognition of Nasir El-Rufai
In a significant move, the NEC recognized Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai as a prisoner of conscience and called for his immediate release. This decision underscores the party's commitment to human rights and justice.
