The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke and former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to lead key committees for its forthcoming party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Imoke was appointed as Chairman of the Presidential Screening Committee, while Abdulfatah Ahmed will head the Presidential Election Committee. The appointments were announced in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the committees were constituted as part of preparations for transparent, credible, and orderly primary elections. The ADC stated that members of the committees were carefully selected to uphold fairness, transparency, credibility, and internal democracy throughout the primary process.
The party emphasized its commitment to ensuring that the primaries are conducted in a manner that reflects the will of its members and strengthens democratic practices within the party. The committees are expected to begin work immediately to ensure a seamless and credible primary election process.
This development comes as the ADC positions itself to field strong candidates for the 2027 elections, aiming to offer a credible alternative to the ruling parties. The appointments of Imoke and Ahmed, both experienced politicians, are seen as a move to instill confidence in the party's internal electoral processes.
