Oladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2023 elections in Ogun State, has officially declared his intention to contest for the state's top office again in the 2027 general elections. In a letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the PDP leadership in the state and submitted through the party chairman in Odogbolu Local Government, Adebutu announced his renewed bid for the governorship seat.
The former House of Representatives member made his intention known on Friday through the letter obtained from his Media Aide, Afolabi Orekoya. Adebutu stated that he had informed the party leadership at both local and state levels about his ambition to contest again. He expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their continued support and loyalty, while urging unity as preparations begin for the next electoral cycle.
Adebutu reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, describing himself as a loyal and law-abiding member focused on strengthening the party's presence across the state. He added that his decision to run again is based on lessons from his previous campaign and a desire to deliver what he called purposeful, people-focused leadership. He emphasized continuity, inclusive governance, and policies aimed at improving residents' welfare as key priorities in his agenda.
In his letter, Adebutu called on all party members to remain united and work together to achieve victory in the upcoming elections. He stressed the importance of learning from past experiences and building a stronger, more cohesive party structure. The PDP chieftain also assured supporters that his candidacy would prioritize the well-being of Ogun State residents, with a focus on sustainable development and inclusive growth.
Adebutu's declaration marks the beginning of what is expected to be a competitive race for the PDP ticket, as other aspirants may also step forward in the coming months. The party is yet to set a timetable for its primaries, but Adebutu's early entry signals his determination to secure the nomination and lead the party into the 2027 elections.
