Yerima Shettima, a former aspirant for the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially withdrawn from the race and expressed full support for the party's candidates, including Senator Shehu Sani, ahead of the general election.
Withdrawal Announcement
Shettima announced his decision on Sunday, stating that it followed extensive consultations and careful consideration of the party's chances to win the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that the move was made out of respect for the APC's decision regarding the Kaduna Central senatorial contest.
“After wide consultations and deep reflection, I have decided to respect the decision of our great party regarding the senatorial contest,” Shettima said.
Commitment to Party Unity
The former aspirant clarified that his withdrawal should not be seen as an act of fear or weakness, but rather as a demonstration of his dedication to party unity, discipline, and collective progress. “This decision is not borne out of fear, weakness, or cowardice, but rather from my unwavering commitment to party unity, discipline, and collective progress,” he added.
Loyalty to APC
Shettima, a civil rights activist, reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for the party at all levels as the elections approach. “As a loyal and committed party man, I remain steadfast in my support for the APC and reaffirm my readiness to continue contributing my quota towards the victory of our great party,” he stated.
Call for Peace and Support
He urged his supporters and associates to remain peaceful and rally behind all candidates emerging under the APC platform. Shettima also pledged his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, in ensuring the APC's victory in the 2027 general elections.
