Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Michael Auta, has stepped down from his senatorial ambition to support the immediate past Senator Danjuma La'ah of the Kaduna South Senatorial District. Auta announced his decision during a meeting with party stakeholders and support groups, including Ward-2-Ward Frontiers, in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Southern Kaduna.
Background of Senator La'ah
Senator Danjuma La'ah, who represented Kaduna South in the Senate between 2015 and 2023, is seeking a return to the National Assembly. He cited persistent calls from constituents urging him to recontest. La'ah is expected to challenge the incumbent Senator of Kaduna South Zone, Sunday Marshall Katung, during the APC primaries in the state.
Auta's Decision to Step Down
Speaking at the meeting, Engineer Auta explained that his decision to step down was informed by the need to consolidate the gains recorded during La'ah's previous tenure. He commended the former Senator for attracting federal projects to the district and expressed confidence in his ability to further advance development in the area. Auta also cautioned the electorate against trading their votes for short-term benefits, urging them instead to support leaders capable of delivering sustainable progress.
However, Auta averred that should his preferred candidate, La'ah, no longer be interested in the race, he would fully enter the contest. He noted that no amount of inducement would suppress his voice from advocating for the betterment of the region.
La'ah's Vision for Southern Kaduna
Addressing supporters, La'ah said his aspiration was driven by a desire to provide experienced and selfless leadership capable of addressing the challenges confronting Southern Kaduna. He emphasized that unity among the people remains critical to achieving meaningful development in the zone, noting that his previous tenure had equipped him with the capacity and experience required for effective representation.
According to him, leadership should be anchored on commitment, competence, and a proven track record of service. He urged the electorate to allow past performance to guide their choices in the coming elections.
Meeting and Awards
The meeting was attended by party stakeholders, supporters, media teams, and women groups in Southern Kaduna. The gathering aimed at promoting and strengthening the unity of the party and mobilizing support for President Tinubu and Vice President Uba's reelection, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The event also featured the presentation of awards of excellence to La'ah by two women political groups in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the development of Southern Kaduna.
