The Borno state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the Federal House of Representatives primary elections inconclusive in the Askira/Uba/Hawul federal constituency. The chairman of the party's seven-member election committee, Mr. Ode Erue, made the announcement on Sunday in Maiduguri.
Reason for Inconclusive Outcome
Erue stated: "Today's primary election in this federal constituency has been declared inconclusive by the committee." He attributed the decision to the non-submission of the party's Appeal Committee report. Erue further revealed that complaints were received from one of the aspirants, Comrade Audu Garba Zali. The committee will wait for the Appeal Committee's report before announcing the election results to the public.
Peaceful Conduct Across the State
Erue also declared the House of Representatives primary elections across the 312 wards of the 27 local government areas of the state as "peaceful and orderly." He noted that candidates for the primary elections emerged predominantly through affirmation and unanimous consensus arrangements, freely and amicably adopted by stakeholders and party delegates without rancour, dispute, protest, or objection. This included instances involving single unopposed candidates.
Emergence of Candidates
Four of the nine announced candidates emerged unopposed. These incumbents include Engr Bukar Talba (Marte/Monguno/Nganzai) and Mukhtar Betara Aliyu (Biu/Bayo/Kwaya/Shani). Four others emerged as consensus candidates: incumbents Usman Zanna (Magumeri/Kaga/Gubio), Ahmed Usman Jaha (Gwoza/Chibok/Damboa), and Engr Satomi Ahmed (Jere), as well as Dr. Kaumi Umara Zulum (Dikwa, Konduga/Mafa).
Direct Primaries in Two Constituencies
Direct primaries were conducted in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council Federal Constituency, where incumbent Abdulkadir Rahis won, and in Bama/Ngala/Kala-Balge, where Mustapha Abdullahi emerged as the winner.
