A group of opinion leaders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara South Senatorial District has thrown its weight behind the former Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, ahead of the party's Senate primary scheduled for Monday.
The group addressed journalists in Ilorin on Sunday, expressing its commitment to ensuring that the ongoing party primaries in the state are conducted in a transparent, credible, and democratic manner. They emphasized that such an approach would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The leaders and elders described the Senate primary as a critical exercise for the future of the APC in Kwara South. They urged those responsible for conducting the exercise to avoid actions that could create division within the party.
According to the group, "Kwara South remains a major political bloc in the state, with 83 out of the 193 wards in Kwara State and seven of the 16 local government areas." They stressed that the zone deserves fairness in the conduct of the primaries.
"Our appeal today is simple, sincere, and patriotic: let the right things be done," the group stated. They warned against "avoidable errors" that could weaken the party's chances in future elections, insisting that party stakeholders must protect the unity and stability of the APC through a fair process.
The group endorsed Dankaka as their preferred candidate for the Kwara South Senatorial ticket, describing her as "trusted and tested" with impressive records of service. "We collectively, as members of Kwara South Senatorial District, raise our voices to make it known that Dr. Muheebat Adenike Dankaka is the preferred candidate for the Senate in our district," the group declared.
They further commended her performance during her tenure at the Federal Character Commission, saying she demonstrated commitment to the development of Kwara South and concern for the welfare of young people in the district. The group also took a swipe at unnamed politicians seeking elective offices despite "their abysmal failure in previous assignments."
They added that the position of the APC National Chairman on the conduct of direct primaries, where no consensus candidate emerges, should be strictly followed to guarantee fairness and internal democracy within the party.
