APC to Welcome Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang in January 2026
APC Plans Grand Reception for Governor Mutfwang

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State is preparing a major political event to formally receive Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the party fold next month. This announcement was made by the party's National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, following a significant stakeholders' meeting in Jos.

A Strategic Move to Consolidate Power

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda revealed the plans to journalists after the meeting, which was held at the Crest Hotel in Jos on the afternoon of 23 December 2025. He stated that the party intends to organize a colourful reception for the governor. According to Yilwatda, this event will symbolically demonstrate that the entire state is now under the APC's umbrella with Mutfwang's anticipated crossover.

Addressing stakeholders earlier, the national chairman emphasized that Governor Mutfwang's membership would serve to galvanise, consolidate, and strengthen the APC's position in Plateau State. Yilwatda expressed his openness to welcoming all influential figures into the party, stating his commitment to ensuring the APC wins elections comprehensively in the future.

Party Reforms and Christmas Gesture

In a significant administrative update, Professor Yilwatda disclosed that the current Executive Councils nationwide have been converted into caretaker committees. He clarified that the tenure of these committees is set to conclude in March of the coming year.

The chairman also seized the moment to urge all party members to participate in the ongoing E-registration exercise to solidify their status as bona fide members. In a festive gesture, he announced a Christmas gift of 11 truckloads of rice to be distributed to members across the state.

Assurances and Unity from Party Leaders

Senator Simon Lalong, the party leader in Plateau State, also addressed the gathering. He commended APC members for their resilience, faithfulness, and support. Senator Lalong moved to calm any anxieties arising from recent political developments, labeling such fears as unnecessary. He gave firm assurances that all party members would continue to be recognised, respected, and carried along in every political arrangement.

The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Rufus Bature, in his welcome remarks, pledged that members would continue to respect the decisions of their leaders. Amb. Danladi Wuyep, Chairman of the Council of Elders, expressed satisfaction with the high turnout at the meeting and voiced hope that the interests of those who worked tirelessly for the party would be duly acknowledged.

The meeting boasted an impressive attendance of prominent political figures from Plateau. Key attendees included:

  • Sen. Diket Plang
  • Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ahmed Idris Wase
  • Dr. Babayo Gagdi
  • Hon. John Dafa'an and Hon. Dalyop Fom

  • Other notable personalities such as Sen. I D Gyang, Victor Lar, former SSG Hezekiah Dimka, SD Lot, John Gobak, and Dr. Cyril Tsenyil of the North Central Development Commission.
